Hello All! Welcome to the 10th of December, exactly fifteen days to Christmas! I can’t believe we are here smack in the end of 2017. I am so thankful for life, struggles and triumphs. This Sunday, I woke up with the same Sunday plans. Dress up for church, head for the service, worship the lord with my family, take in the sermon and come back to this portal and share it all with you, to the best of my ability. I shall start first with my “fashion ” for today’s service.

My Sunday Style: This week’s Sunday style was largely influenced by the current season. Christmas for me, is always associated with vibrant reds. I matched the Chevy Jacket ( A mono sleeved Kneelength Jacket) by FIA from the store with a tulle skirt by Tiffany Amber , a matching red mini trilby, black shoes and a gold clutch, by Zashadu. Off I went to church, in different scarlet hues. It was a really gorgeous & interactive day in church. Keep reading for the rest of this after the photos. Mini confession time: My outfit, though I absolutely adore it, felt a wee bit too funky for church. What are your thoughts?

The Sermon:

The discussion was led by a really lovely lady, Dr Okoro. She is an educationist and has written/published  many books. She led today’s session on Family & Parenting and started of by saying” Parenting is ordained by God and it must be done in accordance to the rules ordered by God”.

PSALM 127 VS 3 aptly describes what children are to us from God, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him“. He gifts us these children to be borne into the world, empty and without information, and leaves it to the parents to fill them with the right information and ensure they come out good. Parenting is a blessing, In Genesis 1 vs 28: God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” The creator of the world ordained us to take charge of our life and work. We have to bring the kingdom of God to bear.

We are not just called to raise Children, we are called to raise Godly children. What are we handing down to our children? How do we even start?

Dr Okoro highlighted 3 key factors that aid effective parenting.

1.Know the Way: Know what parenting is all about. Know all the information needed

2. Show the way: Your ability to execute good parenting and come up with results. Start with yourselves, be good examples. Children are acute copy cats.

3. Live a legacy: What are the lasting legacies you need to bequeath to your children? Train up your child in the ways of the Lord, so they will not depart. What are the values you are passing on? Are they from the word of God or from Logic.

Derive values based on scriptures and the word of God. As a parent, do you know the word of God? Are you in tune with what the Holy book says? Now more than ever, we need to familiarise ourselves and equip ourselves with knowledge, so we can impart them to the upcoming generation accurately. She gave us some key adjectives to bear in mind while parenting: Godly, intentional,Purposeful, Exemplary,Effective. She stressed on the need for parenting goals and targets and a parenting style to be set. If effectively carried out, we shall be ensured of mature children that will contribute positively to the society.

It was a truly rousing session. I couldn’t help but feel the weight of the responsibility parents have to their children. I also said a fervent heart felt prayer to the Lord that I will also make an exemplary parent when the time comes. Some may say, how children turn out is only as a result of the grace of the Lord. I totally agree with that, If we have done all within our power, trained them in the way of the Lord, were careful what we exposed them to, lived exemplary lives, filled our homes with love and the doctrines of the Lord, and they still departed from the right way. We can only keep praying fervently and with no guilt in our hearts, as we truly did our absolute bests. The seeds you have planted will bring them back.

May the Lord strengthen us as we show love to one another and live exemplary lives!

Have an amazing Sunday all!

Stay Victorious!
