A bit about spending New Year’s day in Eastern Nigeria..

Jan 7, 2016 | Fashion

What is your state of Origin??

Nigerians often do not reside where they are originally from.. My tribe is Ibo, and we are located at the Eastern region of  Nigeria. I am from Umuakwu, Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa (Abia State).Growing up, we always went Eastwards during the Easter and Christmas holidays.. One of my best memories to be quite frank.. I learnt to speak Ibo super fluently, got to know my cousins, learnt a lot about my  culture and traditions.. and so much more..

For the past 10 years, I hardly get a chance to make my way home .. I was there during the New year celebrations and  what a joyful period it was!!.. “Going to the the St James Village church I dreaded as a kid as a result of the super long  services and marvelling at how much things had changed.. and at the same time how so much hadn’t.. ..bonding with family..Partaking in palm-wine.. munching on authentic fried  goat-meat (Doesn’t get better than eastern goat-meat), amazing harmattan, crisp fresh air, crickets, the stream, the women dressed in George wrapper and their kind gazing eyes “..and generally immersing myself in the beauty of the land and being thankful for being alive at such a time as this! My  roots, family and culture are a big part of me! I love Nigeria and the unique variety each geographical zone presents!
