The month of May was filled with so many high moments at Zinkata. The most memorable of all was being commissioned  as a Fashion Consultant  by Vlisco for an editorial featuring their latest collection. It was such an amazing project to work on and particularly intriguing because the Vlisco team took quite a different direction with the theme of the shoot. It was an exciting proposition and a real joy to see come together in such seamless form! The official pictures will be released soon!

In the meantime, I shall share a bit more than the perfunctory tid-bits about the shoot.

A little bit about Vlisco: Vlisco is well known for their vibrant Ankara prints/Dutch wax. Ankara is associated with African culture and tradition and Vlisco stands firmly in the heart of this. “Since 1846, Vlisco has been creating unique textiles, in Holland, that have influenced the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa. These textiles are a display of true Dutch craftsmanship and as such were originally known as ‘Hollandais’, from the French word for ‘Dutch’. Vlisco is still today the only brand creating authentic Dutch wax fabrics and is recognizable for its unique design, colours and wax effects which combine to create this inspiring fashion statement”(Source: The Vlisco website).

The Shoot Brief: It was quite a straight forward brief: A Ramadan themed editorial to be shot in Lagos, Nigeria. Two designers were  selected to design 5 pieces each for Ramadan and it’s festivities using Vlisco’s latest collection.

We worked with two designers for this project:

Odio Mimonet: The Odio Mimonet brand is a well revered fashion house with more than 20 years of consistent revolutionary couture and ready to wear designs.

The Lady Maker: The Lady Maker made her debut into the fashion industry in 2016. They have very swiftly made a name through their brilliant use of prints to create contemporary well cut classic designs!

The theme of the shoot was quite straightforward and had to be carried out efficiently through smart partnerships, great team work and collaborating with the best brands to create the right vibe and aesthetic. We worked with brands such as:

Abaya Lagos: AbayaLagos hand-crafted all the turbans using Vlisco and other fabrics to interpret the shoot’s objective perfectly.

b.The Polo Avenue: Luxury shoes at it’s best were the perfect fit for the voluminous ramadan themed styles

c. Raya: For gorgeous Jewellery with gold accents, we went with Raya.
