My mom swears she wore this dress much better than me…
Unfortunately, I have no photos to back-up her claims… It dates back to the seventies.. A young Clara Chinkata had an event.. It was her husband’s (Forster) annual work cocktail party. They lived in Aba at the time.
Clara went by the famous Ariaria Market in Aba; purchased fabric and took it to the “HOT” tailor at the time..He was a male tailor called Kalu and was the rave of the moment..Kalu’s store was at St Michaels Road..She asked him to make a “3-step maxi” dress..
In the photos below, I am wearing the same dress..unaltered.. It felt like the perfect dress for Friday.. Mommy says she had on medium heels, an afro and dark red lips.. I went my own way.. but I must confess I felt the magic.. the distinct pull of the past.. of ancient love.. of a dance in the garden.. admiring glances.. a besotted groom..and….. bla bla bla…
See photos below..
What is your story??
