I find House of Marie’s SS 2014 look book very intriguing. The pieces have a strong authentic African stamp as well as resounding nicely amongst broad diverse cultures across the globe. They are seriously multifunctional as well and depict silhouettes befitting a strong confident woman.
In Creative Director Joan Ibuzor words:“House of Marie’s Spring Summer 2014 theme is Ogè Oré, which is a tale of a discerning woman who is endowed by God. She chooses to display her appreciation of beauty with the dresses unapologetically. Ogè Oré is glorifying God with fashion. The stunning designs are inspired by an ebullient yet powerful woman hence the colourful blooms of flowers and the military inspired style. The tie-dye adds a tropical / ethnic effect. Using intricate beading work, along with fabrics such as lace, chiffon, adire and brocade”.
Indeed it is a very powerful collection! I was thrilled to get a chance to style the shoot. My theme for the shoot was “Africa in a Global context”. I styled the girls in a strong un-aplologetic African manner yet with a minimalist modern silhouette running through. I imagined them still being able to stroll down the streets of Paris, Newyork or even London in these looks.Basically a universal “Africanness”.
The hair was threaded in bold severe styles and they had minimal but striking makeup. I kept the shoe choice simple and minimal as well.
Which is your favourite piece from the collection?? Please write in..
Have a great Thursday!
