Military Inspired Vlisco Fabric: Projecting Phenomenal African Women

Jul 3, 2015 | Fashion

“In today’s post my clothing emboldens me to be  a strong, beautiful African Woman”.

I am wearing a military inspired dress designed by The Ladymaker using authentic Dutch wax fabrics by Vlisco, from the Pret-a-Creer Limited Edition collection. I teamed the dress with brown sandals by Tory Burch.

The Creative Journey by Ifeyinwa Azubike: Creative Designer of  The Ladymaker

Ezinne recently asked me to create a look for her from Vlisco. She is versatile, creative and quite fearless when it comes to what she wears so I knew I could make an unusual piece. I decided to combine the Vlisco fabrics to create a Military Coat-Dress, because I have always loved a juxtaposition of ladylike and modern elements.  I decided to use the darker, more graphic print for the top half of the dress and the collar and majority of the sleeve and use the more romantic print for two- thirds of the flare. The final touch was 10 brass buttons to complete the military look! Ezinne has great proportions, but I feel this dress would work for many shapes and sizes. Altogether, it was so much fun working on the dress“!

Thanks LadyMaker, for the fantastic design and Vlisco , “for consistently providing unique textiles that have influenced the fashion landscape in Africa“.

Have a blessed day all!!
