It is always such a joy to see moms going the extra mile in their children’s lives, as well as playing an active role in their various activities and projects. I recently saw a very cute picture of my friend’s (Kristina Folorunso Balogun) daughter on Facebook! It was quite a quirky fun photo and I was pretty intrigued! Kristina lives in London and made a really creative hair-style for her little girl’s (Omomorewa (Momo) Balogun) crazyhair day in school!
I absolutely loved it! View all the cool photos and read the fun interview below:
1.Ezinne Chinkata: What was the purpose of the hair project?
Kristina Folorunso Balogun: It was for the School Crazy hair day fund raise.
Ezinne Chinkata: How old is Momo?
Kristina Folorunso Balogun: She’s 8 years old.
E.C: Was the chosen hair-style inspired by her personality?
KFB: The hairstyle was chosen by her but made by me.She wanted cornrows in rainbow colours. It was both our idea.
E.C: Was it a hit with her friends?
KFB:All her friends and their parents loved it, she stood out at the assembly and some were taking pictures of it and also with her.
E.C:The best part of being a mom to a creative daughter?
KFB: It’s always fun, she’s already a little fashionista with her creative style.
E.C: The hardest part of bringing up a child outside of her home country?
KFB:The hardest part is she can understand Yoruba language but can’t speak it. I guess with time she’ll get round it. She loves going to Nigeria, the food and culture, and most especially the weather.
E.C: Tips for new moms raising their kids away from their home country.
KFB: I’d say making the kids more aware of their native tongue from birth, speaking it to them always and enabling holidays at least once a year for awareness.
