I have recently gone NATURAL. “A month without weaves or any manner of hair extensions”. It happened quite incidentally: I was extremely busy and had no time to hop off to the salon to get extensions in.One month on and here I am, still rocking my hair. It felt quite impossible at the beginning. I stared at myself in the mirror and I absolutely hated my cropped natural curls. I looked on and thought..”Oh damn.. How am I going to work with this?”. Even as I was well aware it was wrong to feel that way, I couldn’t help how I felt.
“I shall certainly wear extensions and weaves whenever I feel like, but I should be able to wear my own hair whether short, long, permed or un-permed and be at ease”.
.. and suddenly it became quite a bit of a challenge. My spine stiffened and I looked on at the mirror with a proud defiance. The battle has been won and I am blazing triumphant. I am having a fantastic time wearing my hair in a state that clearly projects the stamp of my heritage. I love my hair!! and I love me even more in it!
What are you afraid of ?? Take a plunge and push through! In your bravery, you shall find strength and squelch your insecurities.
“DO IT AFRAID. YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN THE SOURCE OF YOUR INSECURITIES”
I AM GRADUALLY “becoming”…
Here’s to an amazing rest of the weekend!!
Stay blazing your own truth, joyfully!

I love your hair Ezinne. I went natural too and it has been a challenge sometimes. I shouldn’t expect any less, because I have lived with relaxed hair for decades. But I do love it!
It is actually a lot of fun! Thanks Nkechi! I am looking forward to learning to manipulate it even more!
